Ireland, the EU & the Circular Economy – European Movement Ireland

December 8, 2020 @ 10:30 am 12:00 pm UTC

The European Commission Representation in Ireland, in co-operation with European Movement Ireland, is organising an online event titled ‘Ireland, the EU & the Circular Economy’.

This online event will discuss key elements of the circular economy in Ireland, with a particular focus on how Ireland can transition towards a more circular economy and how the EU can help.

The European Commission adopted earlier this year a new Circular Economy Action Plan. This includes plans to ensure products will be designed to last longer and be easier to repair, recycle and reuse. It aims to boost sustainable textiles, and help ensure clothes will be made to last longer. It also covers action on single use plastics and microplastics, and sets out plans for minimising waste exports outside the EU.

Speakers are:

  • Les Carberry – Head of the Circular Economy Division, Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications
  • William Neale – Adviser on Circular Economy and Green Growth at the European Commission’s Environment Directorate General
  • Prof. Kevin O’Connor – BiOrbic, Bioeconomy SFI Research Centre
  • Emma Walsh – International Partnerships Director of FoodCloud

Moderator: Noelle O’Connell, CEO EM Ireland
